"Beauty Within" - Dead Prez

For all the natural ladies - there is love out there for us

Lyrics:
♫Dedicated not to America’s top model but to the natural girls right next door. Like they say in Avatar, "I see you"
This Hollywood world so pretentious/every other girl got a perm or extensions/But you don’t even really wear lipstick/Still your beauty is a natural mystic indigenous strong cheekbone from your lineage not what the mainstream image is/Natural hair is your heritage but to see it without chemicals is rare as the pyramids/I was coming from the gym again/bumping 2Pac never call you B**** again/she ‘cross the street melanin glistening/felt the energy/something bout ya so interesting/the prototype Eve from Genesis/Ghetto empress Nefertiti resemblance/so sweet, so street, and genuine/real black girl I salute your existence/I can see us just kickin it/Building an intimate friendship more than just hittin it/down to earth like greens and cornbread/she don’t need no weaves or contacts/not judging other girls that got that/I’m jus sayin you the truth, never doubt that/cause you got that
Beauty’s a thing
Not just on the surface
The skin that you’re in, you're already perfect
They got nothing on you baby, nothing on you baby
Beautiful girls come in all types of flavors
When you love yourself it’s always gon be haters
They got nothing on you baby, Just keep doing you baby
This is going out to my African Queens/Dark skin, light skin, everything between/looking so good when you step up on the scene/smelling so sweet so fresh and so clean/even though we don’t see you on the flat screen/ain’t no doubt about what you got in dem jeans/I don’t mean denim, it’s your family tree/Yea it’s all about that red black and that green/For Gianesa and Falina and for all the pretty little girls/going out to my momma my favorite woman/and for all the women in the world/no they don’t love you on the radio/ and they try to play you in the video/but you so beautiful and natural/oh, oh♫

Goapele's Milk & Honey Video

I love Goapele! I've been a fan of hers for more than a decade. And I am proud to say that she is from my home town, so luckily I get to see her perform when ever she returns to the area. I have also seen her throughout the Bay Area, and she has a beautiful spirit. Very down to earth, sweet and humble.

When she wore her hair in Loc's, she was a huge inspiration for me. And she is still naturally beautiful with her current unique braided style. Goapele has a new album coming out and here is a track from her new CD. - Source

One of my Inspirations!

I found a picture I took (above), like a decade ago, with one of my favorite singers - Goapele. I look crazy in the picture - so bright... lol. And my smile was crazy huge. I think I was just excited. But I don't like this picture of me at all. But because I am a huge fan of this singer... I will post it.

Although she was a huge inspiration for my loc's (she use to have gorgeous loc's), Goapele now sports a cute braided style . She was one my biggest influences and sources of encouragement when I first started to loc my hair. She was very versatile, and would wear her hair in all kind of different loc styles. I read an article where she was asked how she comes up with all these different looks, and she said that she looks at pictures from all different cultures. If she likes a style, she just tries to recreate it with her own locs. I thought that was cool. And even today, so remains to be an inspiration with her new natural look and her soulful music.
